Learn To Run Clinic

LEARN TO RUN PARTICIPANT INFORMATION SHEET

WHEN: Tuesdays running May 10th- 31st   

May 10th information session starts at 6pm followed by run

May 17th, 24th, 31st meet at 7pm and run starts at 7:15

WHERE: River Heights Physiotherapy 528 Waterloo St

Our Goal run is optional and not required when you sign up for the running clinic. It is the 5 or 10km Shopper’s Drug Mart Run for Women Sunday June 5th starting at 9am (suggested arrival time 8am) at the Manitoba Legislative Building 450 Broadway St. The cost for the signing up for the in person 5 or 10km run is $55. Another option is to sign up for their virtual run which is $40 for any distance.

Join our team and help us raise money for the Women’s Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba. This association provides programming to support the mental wellness of all women and girls. For interested participants we will meet you at the Goal run and run together to raise money and awareness for this essential service. WHO: Physiotherapists Amanda McLean, Mandy Connell and Jessica Ness of River Heights Physiotherapy will be there to guide you along your journey to learn to run a 5 or 10km distance. Amanda McLean is one of the owners of River Heights Physiotherapy and has been involved in running coaching for many years. She has run 2 half marathons, coaching one of them herself at the Running Room.

Mandy Connell is the other owner of River Heights Physiotherapy, in addition to her career as a physiotherapist she spent many years as a fitness instructor and runner herself.

Jessica Ness is a physiotherapist at River Heights Physiotherapy, an avid runner and fitness enthusiast. Jessica is the perfect person to help you reach your running and fitness goals.

WHAT: Our running clinic is targeted at healthy individuals who are interested in improving their fitness by adding running into their lifestyle, current runners who want more information on how to stay injury free or are interested in meeting other runners to share their passion for running with. Participants should not be new to exercise and have no injuries that currently keep them from being active.

A good indicator that you are ready to add running into your program is that you can walk at a fast pace comfortably for 60 minutes with no injury. We will have you fill out a PAR-Q and information sheet before the clinic to make sure the running clinic is the right fit for you.

The information session will present to you the running basics and fundamentals to prevent injury and succeed in your running goals.

Participants will need good active footwear designed for running. The information session on May 10th will cover selecting proper footwear so if you are in need of new shoes and would like guidance in shoe selection you may want to wait to buy them until after the information session.

Registration will be limited to ensure social distancing and that you get plenty of time to ask individual therapists any questions you have during the session and following runs. Participants and presenters will be required to wear a mask while inside for the information session but masks will not be required for outdoor runs.

The training runs will be 30-40 min in length each night, tailored to the needs of our runners and working up to 10 and 1’s, 10 min run and 1 min walk for 5 or 10kms the last evening of the 31st.

COST: The cost of the Running clinic is $50. This includes the Information session and 4 physiotherapist guided runs. Not including the $55 registration fee for the Goal run on June 5th.

Participants are encouraged to join our River Heights Physiotherapy Team which you can find on the Run for Women website www.runforwomen.ca and help us reach our fundraising goal. In addition we will send interested participants an email inviting them to join our team.
