What is an Athletic Therapist?
Athletic Therapists are experts in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system. They can treat acute and chronic injuries of bones, muscles and joints. Athletic Therapists use manual techniques, modalities and exercise prescription to prevent and treat a wide range of injuries and can help get you back to your sport or your favorite activities and help increase performance, no matter what level of activity.
Who can see an Athletic Therapist?
Anyone! Although Athletic Therapists are primarily thought to treat athletes, anyone can benefit from Athletic Therapy. Your Therapist will educate you on your injury and help reduce pain, improve function and help get you back to how you were feeling prior to your injury (or better)!
What does a typical session with an Athletic Therapist look like?
Your Therapist will take you through a thorough assessment to determine the injury, including a history of the injury, range of motion and strength testing. Depending on the injury, your Athletic Therapist will then use manual therapies such as massage and stretching, and modalities, or a combination of the two to treat your injury. Your therapist will then come up with an exercise plan to rehabilitate your injury and help you recover.
Can I still see an Athletic Therapist if I'm not injured?
Yes! Athletic Therapists have a keen eye for exercise evaluation and can help you improve your exercise technique and build confidence with resistance training. An Athletic Therapist can assess the biomechanics of your exercises to improve technique. They can also create an exercise program to help you meet your goals whether you are looking to improve sport performance, increase strength or just become more confident while exercising
