Introducing Megan Silcox, Physiotherapist

We are busier than ever at River Heights Physiotherapy! In order to continue to provide exceptional quality service for our clients, we are adding another physiotherapist to our team. Megan Silcox is an experienced therapist. She worked at the Pan Am Clinic for over 7 years. She spent two adventurous years in Peru with her family and recently returned to Winnipeg.

Over the years, Megan has pursued continuing education in many fields including manual therapy, exercise prescription and neuro-pathic pain. She is also licensed to practice acupuncture and prefers to use a multi-faceted approach to helping her patients recover from injury to their full potential. Megan enjoys the teaching aspect of her profession and believes strongly in the value of educating her patients about their condition/injury, helping them take ownership of their recovery and play an active role in it.

How to Prevent Shin Splints

A shin splint, which is medically referred to as tibial stress syndrome, is a painful injury to the shin that commonly affects runners, but also dancers and other athletes. 

Shin pain most often occurs on the medial side of the shin (termed medial tibial stress syndrome, or MTSS) but can also occur on the lateral or anterior side of the lower leg. Shin splint pain develops due to the overexertion of pressure on muscles in the lower legs causing stress on the tissues in that region.
