Fall Prevention is Important!
If you or someone close to you is 65 years of age or older, the chance of at least one fall in 2009 is one in three! This means that more than 30,000 older Winnipeggers are likely to fall this year. And that risk increases to one in two for people over the age of 80. Falls can have serious consequences, including hospitalization, permanent loss of mobility and independence, and even death.
Here are some facts about falls in Winnipeg:

- More than 2,000 Winnipeggers are hospitalized each year due to fall injuries.
- People who are admitted to a hospital because of a fall tend to stay in hospital for a very long time, an average of 33 days.
